Our winter season runs every year from a week before Christmas to the first week of April, snow permitting.
Smiley Creek Lodge is located near the headwaters of the Salmon River in Central Idaho. We are at the top of the Sawtooth Basin near the confluence of Smiley Creek and the Salmon. We are 37 miles north of world-famous Ketchum / Sun Valley and 23 miles South of Stanley, Idaho.
Winter in Idaho is all about recreation!
Smiley Creek Lodge rents Polaris and Yamaha Snowmobiles for guided or unguided trips through this winter wonderland. There are over 185 miles of groomed trail that head north from Smiley Creek. On one of our rental snowmobiles, experience the scenic groomed trails or have one of our experienced guides can show you some of the special places in the Sawtooth Basin, such as, the view over Stanley Lake or Redfish Lake in winter.

Smiley Creek Lodge is located just three miles away from The Alturas Lake Nordic Ski Trail providing over 16K of groomed skating and classic Nordic trails.

We offer a variety of services for those enjoying the rugged beauty of this special place in the mountains of central Idaho.
We have a restaurant offering local and seasonal specials as well as home-style favorites. We have an ice cream parlor serving delicious hand- dipped milkshakes and a variety of ice cream flavors. Our deli provides a variety of sandwiches and wraps that are made to order.
We offer a variety of lodging options from lodge rooms with private baths, cabins with shared baths and, in the summer, teepees, RV sites and tent camping.
Our store features unique and interesting gifts, camping and sports supplies and some groceries.
We also sell regular and premium gas and propane.
Please stop by for a picnic lunch to go on your way out, or come and stay for a while and enjoy everything the Sawtooth Basin has to offer.
When winter turns to summer,
Smiley Creek Lodge is in the center of dozens of high mountain activities.
Some of the things right outside our door:
-Fabulous hiking and backpacking to the peaks and high alpine lakes of the Sawtooth Wilderness and White Cloud mountain ranges.
-Fishing in the Salmon River and its tributaries, or one of the hundreds of high alpine lakes.
-Back country scenic flying. The state of Idaho Smiley Creek airstrip is right across the road.
-Bicycling highway 75 through the valley or over the challenging Galena Pass, or mountain biking Fisher Creek Trail or one of the numerous other easy or gonzo routes.
-Boating, or just hanging out on the beach at Alturas, Petit or Redfish Lakes.
-Touring the historic mining sites of Vienna, Sawtooth City or Bonanza and Custer a little ways down the road.
-White water rafting or kayaking on the Salmon River.
-Motocross or ATV riding.
-Horseback riding, either for the afternoon, or packing in for a week or more.
